We got an ending to Rogue 1, one that made sense and was perhaps the right one to choose. It left us viewers with the freedom to decide whether there was anything more between Jyn and Cassian than solely partnership and eventually friendship. I personally like to think that, if they had been able to get off Scarif, there was a romantic relationship in store for them. I really appreciate Jyn's character and the way her and Cass worked together, a lot better than he did with Bix in my opinion. So this (very) short story is for those who are open to that possibility and aren't 100% on board with those last scenes of the film. Enjoy!

As rumors of an ultimate weapon spread across the galaxy, the shadow of the Empire grows ever darker. "I don't have much time," she began. "I don't know if you can hear me but, I just wanted to thank you. For everything." She found it hard to look at his bruised face. "I'm not sure what's going to happen. But all of this would've been for nothing if we can't destroy the Death Star." Her heart raced, knowing what she was walking into. Hearing a droid down the hall she panicked, taking her kyber crystal necklace off. "I'll come back. I promise." She leaned down to kiss his forehead leaving the necklace in his hand. Quickly she hid behind a curtain as the droid sauntered in. Once it turned its back Jyn took a last glance at Cassian and with hesitation escaped. Her ship left approximately in an hour. She had already packed her things. The journey ahead could be her last.

Before the rebellion could rise, someone had to let go. In the quiet shadows of Yavin, Bix Caleen sits with the weight of love and war. As Cassian sleeps beside her, she prepares for a goodbye he'll never see coming-because sometimes the hardest part of fighting for the future is leaving behind the heart that anchors you.
