Wren is a complex rabbit hybrid-soft-hearted, sharp-eared, and shaped by prey instincts she can't turn off.
At home, she obeys.
At school, she defies.
Around predators? She cowers.
When a new maths teacher, Mr Smith, is introduced into Wren's life abruptly, she immediately sorts him into a category. 'Strict' otherwise known as, 'stuck up teachers'. She assumes that she won't be noticed unless she's 'being a problem' but it seems her assumption is wrong for as he sees every twitch of her ears, every flinch, every flee. Not because he cares deeply-
But because her unpredictability unnerves him. The way he can't read her like he can with the other students, it bothers him. Like an itch in the palm of his hand that he can't satisfy.
Wren hates being read. Being read = being predictable. Being predictable = danger. But some part of her- the trembling and high alert part- strangely dies down when his presence is around. She doesn't feel completely safe but steady in his structured presence.
After a painfully overwhelming day, Wren crosses paths with Tracy-a wolf hybrid who devours attention like it's oxygen-and Jessi, her human partner-in-crime who thrives on keeping others small. Together, they know exactly how to find the cracks in Wren's walls and press until she folds.
Wren's paws are soft, but her world is full of sharp jaws.
And soon, she must decide:
Will she plant her soft paws firmly on the ground?
Or keep fleeing until everyone has taken a bite out of her willpower?
