It's been over 2,000 years since the Great Ice Age unleashed its fury across the earth. To ensure humanity's survival, the Founding Engineers selected a genetically diverse population to live under the safety of a dome, leaving everyone on the outside to perish. With the real world shut out so long ago, hardly anyone remembers it's there-- least of all Maysel, who's frozen inside. The only thing she has to worry about is the dome's dwindling gene pool, which threatens their very existence. The reason they were chosen. To ensure humanity's survival through the Great Ice Age. When Maysel finds out the city stole her DNA as a toddler, she teams up with Maddox, a classmate with deep, personal gripes against the city. Together, they uncover the ethically questionable lengths the city has taken to restore the gene pool, and begin to think beyond the dome's false blue sky. Meanwhile Dr. Hatfield, a scientist for Avtek, spends his summers analyzing ice cores in Antarctica. Until one day, he stumbles across a man-made tunnel on the side of a mountain, just barely peeking above the surface. The ice is melting.

The ice was only the beginning. After the discovery beneath Antarctica shattered everything humanity believed about its world, the truth can no longer stay buried. Ancient systems older than civilization itself have begun correcting the planet's fragile balance-and humanity is no longer just observing them. It is part of the equation. Mara Kline never expected to become the bridge between two worlds. Now recognized as an intermediary by the ancient intelligence beneath the ice, she stands between humanity and a system designed to protect Earth at any cost. But the Angarthi are not the only ones watching. Across the planet, new signals are awakening dormant networks hidden beneath oceans, deserts, and glaciers. Structures humanity never knew existed are beginning to stir. And somewhere beyond Antarctica, something far older than the Angarthi has noticed humanity's sudden arrival at the edge of a much larger reality. As governments scramble to understand what lies beneath their own planet and the balance system continues its relentless corrections, Mara faces an impossible question: Is humanity ready to share its world... or will the system decide it has waited long enough? Because the deeper humanity looks beneath the ice- the more it realizes Earth was never meant to belong to it alone.

It was a mystery to Infinity Swanson how mountain climbers did it, look at the face of death and chuckle. Her life has been the definition of ordinary, a single mother of a college-bound son, and the chances of her embarking on an adventure was near zero. But one night transforms everything, and she is forced to examine everything she ever knew about herself, or the lack of it. Old friends come knocking expressing sympathy. Everything that was once easy became a pain to do. Then she discovers something embedded beneath her son's seemingly open exterior... something strange, about Antarctica. Was it a coincidence seven people disappeared the day after she found it? Contains mild swearing. Highest ranking: #103 in adventure [Inactive. Not sure if I want to continue this story anymore but I'll see after finishing my main novel project.]

Antarctica, the biggest and most extreme continent on Earth, is a place of extremes. It's incredibly large, freezing, and it holds most of the world's fresh water. Even though it's a tough environment, Antarctica is a hotspot for scientific research and is home to special animals. This article explores its history of exploration, where its name comes from, and the challenges of living there. It also mentions some historical events along with the Antarctic Treaty, which helps keep things peaceful. Different countries saying they own parts of Antarctica make things complicated. In a near future world, the nations have taken to mining the ripe oil fields of Antarctica. The world is unprepared for what will face them in the final frontier as an emergent disease ravages the colony. Only one man survives, and is allowed on the CDC special unit in an attempt to create a cure in case the disease leaves the continent. The disease explodes into a world wide pandemic, forcing the protagonist to question every thing he has ever known. The story follows along with the terse style and tone of Cormic McCarthy's 'The Road' and commentates on the environmental consequences of man's incessant infatuation with Antarctica, the last unspoiled land on earth.

Entry for The Open Novella Contest! Round 1 *check* Round 2 *rolls shoulders, cracks knuckles* In progress. Current Word Count: Hello, and welcome to the hell that is my life. If you like aliens, exorcisms, bookstores, peanut butter and jelly, Boomerang, and unabashed sarcasm, this book is probably for you. Or not. I mean, it's about me- obviously- but you might enjoy it. Not that I care. You're probably a government agent anyway. Do you know O'Hara? Oh, God. The Tangles put you up to this, didn't they? With friends like the Tangles, who needs enemies. Go on. Read, judge me, comment on the dramatic details of my account. I'm busy trying not to die from sub zero temperatures, men in black suits, and a lawyer who wants to eat me.

This is my ranking of the third Tomb Raider game. Tomb Raider three was released in 1998. It features 19 levels where Lara travels to India, the South Pacific, Nevada, London, and Antarctica. From my understanding she seeks four stones taken from a meteorite that crashed to earth in Antarctica millions of years ago. Each piece of the stone has been scattered across the globe.

Antarctica was never meant to be understood. When a team of researchers arrives at a remote Antarctic outpost to investigate unusual melt patterns beneath the ice, they expect faulty instruments, unstable weather, and the familiar dangers of the most isolated place on Earth. What they find instead is something that should not exist-an unnatural fracture in the ice, warm to the touch, impossibly precise. And beneath it... a door. What lies beyond the ice is not ruin or emptiness, but evidence of deliberate design-ancient structures, preserved life, and a vast hidden world that challenges everything humanity believes about its own history. Creatures long thought extinct are not dead, only sleeping. Others were never known to science at all. And the ice that held them is beginning to fail. As the boundary between worlds weakens, the expedition is forced into an impossible alliance with a civilization that has lived in secrecy for millennia-guardians of a truth humanity was never meant to uncover. A truth hidden not out of malice, but restraint. Because the ice was not preserving the past. It was containing it. Where the Ice Breaks is a slow-burn science fiction thriller blending discovery, horror, and wonder-where survival depends not on conquest, but on understanding what should never have been found.
