In my English class, we were reading the play "Antigone". After finishing the book, I had a few ideas about a poem, so I wrote about the play. For those of you that haven't read "Antigone", not all of the symbolism might make sense, but I hope you still enjoy it.

"We Were Gone" is a modern retelling of Sophocles' drama "Antigone" set in a posh prep school in Bel Air. The heroine Antigone is now a high school junior named Annie who takes the administration of Thebes Academy head-on when her two older brothers get into a fight at school. When one brother is expelled but the other is not, Annie decides she must stand up and speak out. Like its forebear, "We Were Gone" is a coming-of-age story of rebellious youth, family conflict, and civil disobedience.

One of the many themes of Antigone is gender and family, and their effect on society and each other.

Are you sure what you remember is real? Enes is a university student living in a dormitory where nothing feels stable-not time, not memory, not even his own thoughts. At first, it's just a voice. A single word in the dark: "Look." Then instructions. Then contradictions. Then silence. As his connection with Sıla deepens, the boundaries between what happened, what was recorded, and what was imagined begin to collapse. Conversations don't match. Timelines shift. Even his own notebook begins to disagree with him. But the most dangerous question isn't whether the voice is real. It's whether Enes ever needed it to be. Because sometimes the mind doesn't lose reality. It builds one. A psychological thriller about memory, perception, and the fragile architecture of truth.

Before the play begins, I would like to present a dilemma. Let's say someone is accused of committing a crime, but the accused fully believes what they did was right. While on trial, should one plead guilty to doing wrong and risk validating the law? Or should one plead innocent at the risk of invalidating their own suffering? Remi isn't too sure, but she can damn well act as if she knew. An adaptation of the Greek Tragedy, "Antigone," made by Sophocles, written as if it were being acted out by UnOrdinary characters.
