His name is Anakin Skywalker. Those two were inseparable, or at least until the two were separated. What happens when they reunite? What if it takes them both down a dark path... The title says it all. This is the story of what could have been, if Anakin Skywalker hadn't turned down the dark path that he did. I know this story is a very common prompt, but I would like to give my take on it. The story starts a little while after AOTC. The whole story will be Anidala, but I may include other ships later in the story, depending on how far I get. The chapters are quite long, so do not be scared away by the fact that there are not many chapters!

A Love That Could Not Save Him is a reimagining of Anakin Skywalker and Padmé Amidala's love story-told through a series of vignettes called Visions. Spanning the Star Wars timeline from The Phantom Menace to Revenge of the Sith, each Vision captures a pivotal moment in their relationship: first meetings, quiet missions, fractured trust, forbidden devotion, and the descent that reshaped the galaxy into the story that everyone knows and loves today. Told from multiple perspectives, this cycle delves into the emotional architecture beneath the saga's myth, reframing familiar scenes with a little more depth and moral complexity. This is not a rewrite of the Star Wars canon; rather, it focuses on expanding areas where the story was not fully developed. To the readers who longed for more time with these characters and the buildup of their relationships, this is for you: this is the story between the scenes.

Anakin loses his mother and Padmé tries to both be there for him and come to terms with her chaotic feelings. A/N: People complain a lot about Padmé's reaction to Anakin confessing to murdering the Tusken Raiders, as well as the romance as a whole. I decided to write this scene out from her point of view, hopefully adding some depth to it - depth that I saw in the movie. The title is a reference to a poem out of Mary Oliver's "Thirst".
