He was sad and lonely because his mom is just lying on her bed, dead. He was afraid that he would be next. He would be next to die on a place were nobody would care. Just leave their body rotting until it's just bones left. He was afraid. So afraid but can't do anything, because he believes that it would just be useless to try and survive. He's just accepting his fate.
