It causes him to keep his distance from people, which shouldn't be so hard since being social was never one of his strong suits anyway. But then an outsider comes to town, a lively Finn named Timo who is unlike anyone Berwald has ever met. He's bubbly and attractive, and Berwald feels drawn to him in a way that pains him to suppress. It's hard enough to know he can never confess his feelings to Timo, but it soon becomes evident that Timo is starting to have the same feelings.
