Charlotte McCarty has been an orphan as long as she can remember. She has never know any of her relatives. Davis Parker, Charlotte's best friend and neighbor, has two loving parents and lives right across the street. One day, the police show up a the steps of Mr. and Mrs. Summers' foster home and to their surprise they have came to ask Charlotte if she murdered her parents. The police are so convinced that she killed her parents, that she has to run away. Davis comes with her. Will they find out who is guilty or will they be doomed to the jail cells?

Gina is a new student at Dale City High and the other students at the small town high school have made it clear that she will never be accepted into the long established hierarchy. The golden pony at the ranch down the road is her only source of affection since her Mom places the revolving door of boyfriends in her life ahead of the needs of her own daughter. Gina has always dreamed of having a horse of her own and the pony, Timmy, is not only a sweet distraction in Gina's life, but he is about to be so much more. How do you find something you can't remember? She can't remember who she is. She doesn't remember where she came from. All she knows is the red desert. She has been in the Desert since she can remember. Surviving day by day under the sun in the Red Desert trying to remember who she was. Avoiding the Desert Tribes, she wanders the desert alone looking for a home and name she no longer remembers. Until she meets Khalos, a stranger travelling the desert looking for the closest Tribe. As she takes him on the path to the Tribe she starts to remember, memories from her old life, things she never thought she would remember. The closer she gets to the Tribe the more she remembers and she starts to question why she avoided the Tribes in the first place, and why a shadow seems to follow her.
