Universal Future centers on Mel, who is a cyborg and who works in a coffee shop, and Aron Riley-Brown, who is an optimistic human who worked at a hover-truck delivery service. But after he gets fired from the job, he stumbles into Mel, and ends up hovering about her coffee shop. They form an unlikely relationship, and Mel thinks she can just about keep him.
