Merlin AU where Merlin is crown prince of Anglia. Queen Hunith organizes a masquerade ball for her son's 20th birthday and every kingdom is invited. Well, except Camelot. But what happens when a certain blonde prince and his knights infiltrate the ball? Merlin must truly believe he's an idiot if he thinks Arthur doesn't know his secret. The trick will be getting Merlin to admit it. But Arthur has a plan, and as far as he's concerned, Destiny can kiss his royal arse.

No young woman, no matter how great, can know her destiny. She cannot glimpse her part in the great story that is about to unfold. Like everyone else, she must live and learn. Merlin sat quietly in his orange chair, mesmerized by the boy's sparkling eyes. "I'm Arthur," he said suddenly, holding out his good hand for Gwen to shake. "I'm Gwen, well, Guinevere, but, you know..." she trailed off, taking his hand in her own and shaking it. "Oh, this is Lancelot, and this is Merlin." Arthur's eyes dismissed Lancelot with a glance, but stayed fixated on Merlin, and Merlin could feel himself going slightly plum. He pushed a piece of stray hair behind his ear, smiling awkwardly. Arthur smiled back. "Hello, Merlin," Arthur spoke in soft tones, and each sentence sounded serenely happy, going up slightly at the end. It fascinated Merlin, who's stomach was doing summersaults. In which Merlin is court sorcerer, and the knights bet that they can beat Merlin in a fight. Merlin happily accepts the challenge, knowing well that the knights of Camelot don't stand much of a chance against him. He is the most powerful sorcerer in the world after all. Meanwhile, Arthur struggles to keep his feelings for Merlin under wraps. Merlins a sassy shit, and Arthur's in love with Him, obviously.

I got the idea for this story from a plot point mentioned in @LSTimetraveler 's book How To Court A Servant. Arthur is under a spell and it is up to Merlin to figure out how to break it. The crowd. The fire. The empty look in Morgana's eyes. Everyone watching Arthur Pendragon die. It was warm. Almost comforting. If it hasn't been for the smoke, I might have even enjoy this. "STOP!" A loud yell from the sky. A dragon flying in. The crowd screaming and dissolving. The hateful look in Morgana's eyes. The man jumped off the violent creature, waved his hand in my direction, and the flames were out. Complete silence. Not even the dragon was breathing. It almost seemed as terrified of the man that rode him as the people where of him. The sky was dark now. Darker than it had been. It started pouring, but the rain was silent too. "WE HAD A DEAL!" The man yelled. His voice higher than a dragon's roar. The dragon stepped back, whimpering by the dragonlord. Last one, I would guess, as I was there when the other last one was killed. "Emrys." Morgana's voice was filled with venom.

Merlin and Arthur have always been friends and everyone knows how they loved each other so much so what would have happened if Arthur survived but didn't know about Merlins magic anymore thanks to amnesia.

More than 1,000 years after Arthur's death, Merlin is still waiting for his King's return. He waits in an abandoned, yet fully decorated observatory on the shore of the Lake of Avalon. An observatory that he has decorated to his heart's content, a place truly fit for a King. He couldn't wait for the day that Arthur would see it.

However hard he tries, he continues to mess things up and get arrested. Arthur starts to feel absolutely useless compared to the warlock, especially after finding out about his abilities. Hopelessness starts taking over his mind, until he convinces himself he has no purpose without his Camelot, and is only a weight on his friend's shoulders.
