Kumiko returns to Japan after six years in the States and rekindles her love for volleyball, reconnecting with old friends Nishinoya and Tanaka, and her childhood neighbor, Asahi. As she navigates intense volleyball matches, jealousy, and school struggles, Kumiko also falls for Asahi. Sayuri Hikari was the mother figure to her junior high volleyball team and continued that mantle into high school, even though their team has been apart for three years. But she just doesn't show that motherly instinct to just her team but to a rather quiet and gentle, weak-willed fellow student Asahi Azumane. With his older appearance, Sayuri sees a gentle soul that just needs a little motherly love, even if she may take it a little too far at times.
