In 1958 Singapore, in a kampung house festering with jinns, five-year-old Safiyyah only sees "friends". But one night, her father's muffled screams echo from beneath the floorboards. Then comes a bestial growl from the shadows saying that it can save him if she sings a special song. Desperate to save her father, Safiyyah agrees. When an innocent child obeys without understanding the cost, it awakens an ancient guardian and its power that should have remained sealed. Another presence in the house stirs - one pretending to be human. Melati believes she is among the living, but the guardian remembers otherwise. It knows what Melati was before she "lived". Guardians don't always guard. And this one doesn't want to leave. (Multi-POVs) Ideation: 2020 Drafts: 2020 - 2025 Published Date: 01 April 2026 Status: Ongoing Copyright © 2026. All rights reserved. But the person just replied, "What are you talking about?" She couldn't believe it but decided to pretend she didn't care. However, she couldn't sleep at all that night. Just as she was trying to force herself to sleep, and when everyone else had finally dozed off, the bus shook violently again. She looked up into the darkness and saw a figure dressed entirely in black. Then, she was so frightened that she screamed out loud. The two-story wooden house by the river is still there- unchanged. Quiet, like nothing has ever been disturbed. The river keeps flowing, as if it carries everything away. As if nothing ever happened. But the villagers know better. Some things... never truly leave. Once, "Phai" watched his younger sister fall ill- after she unknowingly ate an offering meant for something no one dares to speak of. After that day, it all seemed to end. Everything went back to normal. Or so it seemed. Because in truth, nothing ever moved on. It only began to repeat- again, and again, in the same place. Years later, he returns. To the same river. To the same story. To the same moment- looping endlessly. And to the "vortex" that has never let anyone walk out of it.

The firelight flickered across the ceremonial hall, casting long shadows on the woven mats and stone-carved faces of forgotten gods. Incense choked the air. The smell was not of peace or prayer-it was of something trying too hard to mask rot. Seah knelt beside the body, her breath shallow. The body was cold. Too cold. Her hands trembled as she brought the comb through strands of dark hair-matted, twisted, thick with dried blood and forest soil. Whisper the release, do not look into their eyes. Do not speak to them. Never, ever hurt them. Especially if they smile. She could still hear Mother Ayrah's words echoing inside her skull. The corpse beneath her was still. But not peaceful. Seah paused. Her heart slowed. Mariko's eyes were open. Her lips were smiling. The smile grew. And in that instant, Seah knew: > This soul was not sleeping. It was waiting.

In the sweltering heat of an April summer, the Abaddessa family travels from Pasay to General Trias, Cavite to inspect an old Spanish-era house that promises a fresh start. The two-story ancestral home seems perfect at first. Its polished wooden staircase, shuttered windows, and faded family portraits carry the charm of another century. But the moment young Nina glimpses a pair of glowing red eyes staring from the darkened landing, the family realizes something inside the house is watching them. As night falls, whispers echo through the halls, footsteps scrape across the roof, and voices begin mimicking loved ones with terrifying precision. Guided by the warnings of Lola Esang, the family matriarch steeped in Filipino folklore, the Abaddessas uncover the house's bloody history and the presence of an aswang lurking within its walls. Armed with blessed oil, salt lines, prayers, and ancestral rituals, the family must survive a night of escalating horror while confronting their own fears, grief, and disbelief. As the creature grows stronger in the darkness, their only hope lies in staying together and trusting the traditions they once dismissed. Red Eyes on the Stairs is a chilling Filipino supernatural horror story about family, faith, and the terrifying power of forgotten legends.

They didn't believe in curses. They believed in profit. One old man. One property. One signature standing in the way. So they built a haunting. An old Cantonese superstition-"Death from the West." Four West tiles. A warning from the dead. It was supposed to be simple. Scare him. Break him. Get the deed. But when the fourth tile falls- Someone stops breathing. Sparrows tear themselves bloody against the windows. And the house begins to choose. Because maybe the legend was never asleep. Maybe it was waiting. And maybe the curse doesn't punish the guilty. Maybe it punishes whoever thought they could play god.
