My name is Asparagus Kelly. Here in Province Three, we are governed by a set of officials. The most prominent occupations taken up by people of our province is Law or something related to education or science. Our Province is the prized jewel of The Country. Only the most intellectual and educated people reside here. Educators from our Province sometimes visit other provinces to teach them because their educational facilities are almost always understaffed. They are the only people ever allowed to leave our province. It's not like we're trapped here. I mean, why would we want to leave? At the age of seventeen, we are provided with a suitable match, generally from the same province. The couple would then spend a year betrothed and then get married. I thought this system was great, wonderful even, until I fell in love. Not only did I fall for someone who would never be paired with me, that someone was a woman. Our love would never survive here in The Provinces. So What Do We Do?
