But when 'her prince' manages to enter into her life, he sees her pining away for someone else. So what's the supposedly charming protagonist to do?

Excerpt Short Story 2: Elliot's hands dropped from his ears. He stilled, staring at her motionless figure strewn across the road. He knew he should get up. He knew he should run and help her. To call the ambulance. To do something. But sitting there, still feeling the slight pain radiating from his left cheek. Still feeling the pounding in his ears. Picturing her beautiful features soften into the kindness that she managed to hold for so long. Hearing her whisper; 'sorry' Hearing her scream; 'It was all your fault!' He didn't feel a thing. And he didn't move an inch.
