Her father has just been promoted, but the down side of it all, they have to move, meaning that Katie and her brother Jack, have to leave all their friends, start at a new school and go to a place they have never heard of and have never seen on a map. When they get to Crystal Falls everything seems strange and abnormal. Soon after their arriving, they start to notice that no one in the town speaks, but somehow they communicate.
