(A 'Wake Up Dead Man'- Fanfiction) After her father dies following a failed brain operation due to cancer, Jia honors his final wish: to visit a small Catholic church in the quiet town of Chimney Rock, upstate New York. But the church's imposing pastor, Monsignor Wicks, is determined to keep outsiders at bay. He doesn't realize Jia isn't here for faith or leadership-she's here to fulfill her father's last request, even if she doesn't believe in God. When a shocking murder rocks the tiny parish, long-buried secrets begin to surface-and Jia soon realizes that Chimney Rock hides far more than she ever imagined.

Author's Note I actually wrote this story back in 2021, when I was around 18/19, and coming back to it now at 23 is... an experience. There are definitely parts that make me cringe, but I also think there's something here that's too good to leave sitting in my drafts forever. So, I'm going to do my best to polish it, improve the writing, and hopefully give the story the version it deserves. Please be kind to 18-year-old me. Her spirits remains resolute, dedicated to upholding the principles that anchor her existence. Amidst the ebb and flow of Sahlah's devout journey, Fate orchestrates a fateful encounter with Sugar- a man of remarkable intellect, proudly identifying as an atheist. Words flow effortlessly from his lips, like an ethereal symphony that captures the attention of all who bear witness. His profound insights and commanding presence bewitch Sahlah, stirring dormant emotions within her. As their lives intertwine, She becomes entangled in the enigmatic web of Sugar's allure. In his presence, she begins to question the boundaries of her faith, forsaking sacred traditions she once held dear. A tempest of emotions range within her, threatening to drown her in a pool of desire. Will she find her footing amidst this tumultuous storm, reclaiming her spiritual compass before committing the gravest of sins.
