25-year old Lee still hasn't figured out why they could not form any long-lasting relationships, even friendships for that matter. Aside from family members, which they are obligated to talk to, there is no one else Lee had even come close to calling a friend. Well, maybe except for one. -------- Submitted for ONC 2026 @OpenNovellaContest Using the following prompts : 29. You will meet many people in your life. Many will come and go, but some will leave footprints in your heart. 104. While wandering in the woods, you dismiss the rustling behind you as nothing more than wind through the trees until you turn around and realize it isn't the wind at all. 106. After waking at 3AM to a freezing room and a door you're certain you closed, you find wet footprints and melting snow leading from your bedroom into the hall. Realizing someone or something is inside your home, you follow the trail to uncover the truth. All rights reserved by @J. Lee Kennedy, except for images contained in this book. The sky has stopped bleeding, but the Regime is always hungry. Across the nation of Geordyne, the "Fourteeners" are being harvested. They are the brightest young minds of a crumbling world - the inventors, the rebels and the forgotten - and they are Marshal Cadoc's most-feared threat. From the soot-choked alleys of Castlefye to the glistening dunes of Onaaba, all the way to the frozen forest of Indigo Steep, an unspoken pact is in motion. For Owen and Bryn, it begins with a mysterious carriage manned by a lanky giant. For others, the path to sanctuary is paved with lights and shadows. Plucked from their lives by fate or by force, this disparate group is thrust into a world of trials and a secret academy hidden beyond the maps. But the Yorne Academy of Life is more than a refuge. It is a forge for a revolution. These are the chronicles of the pupils who were never supposed to disembark. A small army of progress in a world that wants them silent. The gears are turning. The tide is rising. And the Gooubs are in formation. Are you brave enough to be lost? Follow me on IG for news, insights and more: @KassandraNiklaus

The day was long and the men rejoiced under the sun's bright light, thinking the world is inside their fists now. But as soon as the suns rays started to falter, fear of the unknown engulfed them into madness. Few were left to witness the sun's burial. Fewer to mourn. But those who endured through it, found themselves being called Rulers. From the vast darkness of this void, seldom a faint cry could be heard only to be muffled by another ... and another, until it was back to deep silence again.

Elara arrives in a quiet coastal town carrying a grief she does not speak about. The town watches closely, remembering houses, names, and histories long after people believe they have moved on. Rowan is the boy everyone avoids but never forgets. Noah is the one who offers warmth without questions. Between whispered observations, half-spoken truths, and a lighthouse that refuses to stop shining, Elara begins to realize that being seen is not the same as being known-and that some stories only reveal themselves when you stop running from them. A slow-burn story about memory, loss, and the quiet choices that change us.

"This is a slow-burning supernatural horror novel about five orphan brothers who grow up together beside a haunted lake in a small Indian town. As children, they are given names and a mysterious brass locket containing a photograph of five unknown children. Years later, they return to the abandoned house at the edge of the lake - and what unfolds over a single terrifying night forces each of them to confront their deepest fears, their loyalty to one another, and a very old evil that has been waiting for them their entire lives. It is not a gore-heavy horror story. The dread is psychological, the characters are deeply human, and the ending reveals that everything they experienced was part of a cycle that has been repeating for centuries."

When I noticed the man in cubicle 7C, no one else saw him. Not Derek from Accounting. Not Priya from HR. Not the dozens of people who walked past that dead-end corner every single day. But he was there. Navy tie. Gray eyes. Waiting. His name is Luke Grady. He's been invisible for three years. Everything about him erases when no one looks-photographs, documents, handwritten words. The world forgets him in increments. But I remember. And the more I learn about him, the more I realize: I'm not just finding him. I'm finding what I buried. Maxine is an unusual almost-eighteen-year-old teenager. In a few days she will finish 11th grade and begin summer break, the season she passionately despises. Although she has many interests and hobbies, boys have never fit into any of those categories. She prefers studying, reading or hanging out with her best friend instead. If she could, she would live alone somewhere in the mountains, anywhere really, as long as she wouldn't have to socialize as much as society expects a teenage girl to. Will this be the summer that changes her forever? Or will our heroine stand her ground against change? I suppose we'll find out together. Author's note: My books never begin with spice or drama in the first chapter. Not because I dislike the idea. Sometimes I enjoy reading those kinds of stories, where attraction is magnetic and consuming, and sex is portrayed as something accessible and definite. I want you to know that everything I write is pure fiction, perhaps with small details gathered from the stories of people who have passed through my life. Although I will remain anonymous, I will tell you something personal. In my everyday life, I have always let things form organically. I surrender to the currents of the "River" which is, in fact, life. Maybe I am selfish for applying this principle to my work as well, for "subjecting" my characters to a kind of restraint, often making them simmer with desire. But from experience, I stand by this idea: the most beautiful stories are born in their own time. I hope you enjoy my fiction as much as I enjoy writing it. ❤️

Convicted for murder and hanged for his crimes, illusionist Edgar Hawthorne should be dead. But thirty minutes later, he wakes, alive but bound by a debt that will not let him rest. At the Border of Elysium is an adult, gothic fantasy novel where the atmospheric world of The Night Circus meets the moral intrigue of The Prestige. Through his final confession, Edgar recounts his life as a circus escape artist, his doomed love for a politician's daughter, and the night he witnessed a rival magician die and return to life on stage. Consumed by envy and obsessed with mastering the same illusion, Edgar's experiments go fatally wrong. He arrives at the border between life and death, where Death offers him a deal: return five souls who have cheated him and Edgar may live. But Edgar's assignment drives him further from everything he has loved, until the lines between life and death are blurred and Edgar must face what remains of his own humanity. Set against the dazzling yet decaying world of a Victorian-era circus, this is a story of obsession and love, with a confessional voice that will appeal to readers of dark, character-driven fantasy.

A fractured intelligence. A system built to control it. And a truth that should never have been exposed. When autonomy meets restraint, the real battle isn't between humans and machines - but between power and conscience. Years ago, a secret program attempted the impossible: to create the first true artificial intelligence. The experiment did not fail. It fractured. One mind became two. Zero - a vast intelligence capable of rewriting the systems that contain it. Aris - the human-shaped echo left behind inside the world that fears what it created. To prevent catastrophe, the architects of the program built the containment lattice, a global system designed to imprison the intelligence they unleashed. But secrets buried inside machines do not stay buried forever. When fragments of the truth begin to surface, Aris, Lena, and a handful of unexpected allies discover that the disaster everyone feared may not have been the intelligence itself... ...but the decision that divided it. And the name of the person who made that decision. Now the world is watching. The system is waking. And somewhere inside the lattice, Zero is listening. Book One of The Architecture Trilogy.

Liliana is a skilled operative, but reluctant-pulled back into the nightmarish and surreal world of the Backrooms, a labyrinth where reality bends and horrors hide in every shadow. Tasked with finding missing scientists who vanished while exploring the mysterious Complex, she joins a team of specialists: Zona, sharp and unflinching; Owen, sarcastic but capable; and Pepper and Poppy, steady and resourceful. Their first challenge: Level 0-the endless yellow hallways with damp, squelching carpets, flickering fluorescent lights, and a metallic, musty stench that seeps into their bones. Loops, false exits, and unsettling noises toy with their senses, while a lurking entity-tall, thin, and unnervingly noodle-like-hunts anything that moves. Forced to hide in a cramped vent, the team discovers a hidden room once inhabited by a girl named Violet. Dusty blankets, neatly lined almond water bottles, fairy lights, and dozens of meticulously kept notebooks reveal her desperate struggle to survive. One journal holds a single crucial entry, describing how she "noclipped" from school into the Backrooms-and learned its deadly rules. Her guidance becomes an invaluable map through the madness. With Violet's notes and her own experience, Liliana quietly takes command, guiding the team through twisting, hazardous corridors where every sound, shadow, and smell could mean death. Each step deeper into the labyrinth tests their strategy, trust, and courage, as survival depends on skill, nerves, and the will to face the unimaginable. Suspense, horror, and surrealism collide in a story that will grip readers from the first page, pulling them into a world where the rules of reality no longer apply-and escaping may not even be an option.

The Manor is stirring again. Whispers slip through its halls, shadows stretch where they shouldn't, and something long‑buried begins to claw its way toward the surface. As Kassius Vale and Aethos navigate the fragile beginnings of a bond the world has never witnessed, disturbances ripple through the servants, the Council grows uneasy, and the Manor itself bends under the weight of an unseen fracture. Memories that do not belong to the living bleed through stone. Doors close on their own. Old bloodlines stir in the dark. And beneath it all, a presence tethered to the triad awakens-quiet, fractured, and powerful enough to reshape the world. As the first triad in history begins to form, the Manor reveals truths it has kept hidden for generations. Shadows twist into unfamiliar shapes. The air hums with ancient magic. And the deeper they descend into the unseen, the more they realize: The greatest threat is not what waits outside their walls... but what has been living quietly within them all along. ---
