In Chapter 1 - Crossways, Tony spends the weekend with his sister and her family, and gets a late start for home Sunday night. Too tired to continue, he parks on the side of the road for a short nap. He wakes up too late to make it to work on time. But, as he'll soon discover, losing his job will be the least of his worries. Chapter 1 is less than 1,000 words. I'll add additional flash-fiction stories as I write them, each under 1,500 words. I hope you enjoy them, and I'd love to hear what you think. ~Simultaneously published on PoetrySoup and Royal Road.

A quiet historical drama set in the mountain post towns of late Edo-period Japan. In a secluded post town deep in the mountains, Toki-the daughter of a honjin, an inn reserved for feudal lords-lives beneath the weight of expectations not her own. As talk of an unwanted marriage begins to close around her, chance leads her to the forge of Zen, a village blacksmith who lives simply among fire, iron, and silence. In the rhythm of hammer against steel, Toki finds herself unsettled by feelings she has never known. Watching from the edge of these quiet changes is Zuisin, once celebrated for deeds long faded into memory. Familiar with both loss and longing, he finds his own heart stirred in ways he thought long buried. Beneath the mountain gate of an old temple, the lives of three souls begin to draw together. Then comes the sudden arrival of a lord's procession. At its head rides Kuroda, an aging retainer who carries with him the shadows of a past shared by them all. Bound by old loyalties and lingering obsessions, Kuroda asks Zen to forge a sword. And with the sound of steel, long-forgotten truths begin to awaken.

Mayana arrived in the small hill town with little to no expectation. But, between mist-covered mornings, rain-soaked paths, and days that unfold with gentle familiarity, the place begins to feel like home. As the monsoon settles over the hills, Mayana finds herself reflected in the weather around her, its calm, its restlessness, its quiet depth. Where the Monsoon Felt Like Home is a tender coming-of-age story about belonging, fleeting connections, and the places that shape us without asking us to stay. A story of a season lived fully, and the traces it leaves behind.

Hogwarts is no longer merely dangerous - it is listening. As whispers curl through stone corridors and ancient roots stir beneath the castle, Juniper Sallow finds herself caught between what grows in darkness and what refuses to stay buried. The Chamber of Secrets has been opened, and fear moves faster than truth - through classrooms, through greenhouses, through the hearts of children who are far too young to carry it. While students turn on one another and the walls themselves seem to remember old violence, Juniper must learn what it means to be seen: as a Muggleborn, as a teacher, and as someone who refuses to look away. Between petrified victims, shifting loyalties, and a castle that breathes uneasily around her, she begins to understand that monsters are not always what we are taught to fear - and that survival often looks like quiet, stubborn care. Beneath the Stone is a slow-burning, atmospheric retelling of the Chamber of Secrets through an adult's eyes - rooted in growth, prejudice, and the fragile act of choosing to stay when leaving would be easier.

It starts with a rustle in the hedges... and a gardener shocked into silence. When a girl senses something stalking her garden at dusk, fear is the only thing that makes sense. But as a shadowed figure lingers at the edges of her world - and her silent gardener leaves cryptic warnings - she follows the trail toward the sea and the ruins of a village long claimed by time. There, among broken walls and moonlit stones, she uncovers a past steeped in tragedy and threaded with her own forgotten story. Something is calling her back - something she once knew, something she once loved - if only she can remember what was lost. As the mysteries of then and now collide, she must choose: run from the unknown... or step toward the truth waiting in the dark. Vaelin awakens-but he is not the first. His mind is not his alone. It is a battlefield, a graveyard of forgotten selves-fractured identities, each born from the last, each shaped by trauma, survival, and unrelenting power. They lived before him. They fought before him. They had pasts, had lives, had purpose-until they vanished into slumber, leaving him to rise in their place. But Vaelin had a life once, too. And now, without warning, he is back, returning to a world that kneels before him yet does not truly know him. The temple whispers, the jungle shifts, and something stirs in the echoes of his mind, pressing him toward truths long buried in the darkness of those who came before. Why did they disappear? Why is he the one who resurfaced? And when the cycle begins again, who will take his place next? Eclipse by the Shadows is a dark fantasy epic exploring fractured identities, power, and the painful legacy of self-creation, where survival is not just about wielding control, but understanding the past that made it necessary.

Then, one by one, they disappear themselves. Two years later, Leah's older brother Kyle-a former Green Beret haunted by her disappearance-refuses to accept that she is gone. Armed with little more than determination and accompanied by his loyal dog, Skip, he follows impossible clues to a forest that does not exist on any map. Technology fails within its borders. Time behaves strangely. The deeper Kyle ventures, the more the woods seem aware of him. As reality begins to unravel around him, Kyle discovers signs that Leah may still be alive somewhere within the forest's grasp. But finding her means surviving a place that feeds on the lost, manipulates memory, and lures its victims ever deeper into the shadows.
