Their average age was twenty-five. They came from Berkeley, Cambridge, Paris, London, Chicago—and arrived in New Mexico ready for adventure, or at least resigned to it. But hope quickly turned to hardship as they were forced to adapt to a rugged military town where everything was a secret, including what their husbands were doing at the lab. They lived in barely finished houses with P.O. box addresses in a town wreathed with barbed wire, all for the benefit of a project that didn’t exist as far as the public knew. Though they were strangers, they joined together—adapting to a landscape as fierce as it was absorbing, full of the banalities of everyday life and the drama of scientific discovery. And while the bomb was being invented, babies were born, friendships were forged, children grew up, and Los Alamos gradually transformed from an abandoned school on a hill into a real community: one that was strained by the words they couldn’t say out loud, the letters they couldn’t send home, the freedom they didn’t have. But the end of the war would bring even bigger challenges to the people of Los Alamos, as the scientists and their families struggled with the burden of their contribution to the most destructive force in the history of mankind. THE WIVES OF LOS ALAMOS is a novel that sheds light onto one of the strangest and most monumental research projects in modern history. It's a testament to a remarkable group of women who carved out a life for themselves, in spite of the chaos of the war and the shroud of intense secrecy.

Ten years ago, six-year-old Drew wished upon a falling star. He wished to become a hero. The star answered. When Drew awakens, he discovers that the world he knew is gone. Earth has been devastated by a robotic invasion, humanity survives inside massive domed cities, and ninety-eight percent of the population has been wiped out. Worse, he has slept through an entire decade. Inside him lies the Atomic Seal-an ancient power from a forgotten civilization known as the Atomic Kingdom. A power once wielded by the legendary Six Knights, warriors capable of shaking worlds and fighting across the stars. Now that power has chosen him. Hunted by alien machines, feared by humanity, and pursued by forces hidden within the Dome itself, Drew is thrown into a war that began long before he was born. As he uncovers the truth behind the Atomic Kingdom, the Dark Faction, and the mysterious disappearance of the remaining Knights, Drew realizes the invasion of Earth was only the beginning. The future holds far greater dangers. Ancient monsters sleep beyond the stars. Empires rise in the darkness. And a forgotten war is about to begin again. With only a sarcastic drone named Elvis, a powerful Atomic Armor, and an unbreakable belief in heroes, Drew must grow from an ordinary boy into the warrior humanity desperately needs. Because some legends are born. Others crash from the sky.

Lieutenant Rathore however thrusts for excitement and uncovers more than he is meant to. Thus plunging the duo into more danger than they ever imagined... Meanwhile the clock is ticking. About the title: Minutes to Midnight The Doomsday Clock is a symbolic clock face, representing a countdown to possible global catastrophe (e.g. nuclear war or climate change). It has been maintained since 1947 by the members of the Science and Security Board of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, who are in turn advised by the Governing Board and the Board of Sponsors, including 18 Nobel Laureates. The closer they set the Clock to midnight, the closer the scientists believe the world is to global disaster. In 1947 it was set to 7 minutes to midnight. In 1991 it showed 17 minutes, this is the furthest from midnight the clock has been since its inception. In 2015, however, it shows 3 minutes to midnight, this is the clock's closest approach to midnight in the 21st Century. Cover by diyamonds
