He just wants her booty, but she'll end up stealing his heart. ***** After pirates kidnap seventeen-year-old Ana in a case of mistaken identity, the orphaned housemaid prepares for the worst. Instead, between a shipwreck, mutiny, and her growing feelings for her captor -- the dashing Pirate King of the Caribbean, Alestair Kincade -- Ana soon realizes the secret she keeps is far from the most dangerous part of her new life. But playing the wholesome daughter of a Spanish admiral among rag-tag buccaneers isn't easy either, and to avoid both discovery and the gallows she'll have to learn to rely on more than just her wits and her charm. But is Alestair Kincade really on her side? Or will his protection and his love both disappear the moment he learns the truth? Just finished Holmes Is Missing by James Patterson & Brian Sitts, and I have questions. Why call it "Holmes Is Missing" when he's barely gone? Bleak plot, uneven pacing, characters I couldn't connect with. 3 stars. Read book one first or you'll be lost. Full review on the blog.

Everyone told me I'd love Legends and Lattes. An orc, a coffee shop, a found family, all the right ingredients. But somehow it never quite brewed for me. Author-narrated audiobooks might be my new favorite thing though. Full review (and why I'm stepping back from the series) up on the blog now.

Adversary to the Villain is here, and Evie and Trystan are back mid-prophecy, mid-treason, and mid-romance (a lot of mid-romance). Great plot, great magic system, but the comedic timing might drive you up the wall. My honest take on book 4 of Assistant to the Villain is up on Views She Writes now.

When Tatsuya Moriwaki returns to the seaside town where he grew up, he carries only a worn backpack and a recording - a voice he hasn't been able to delete in fifteen years. Mizuho Sato's voice. They met when they were seventeen. They loved recklessly, completely, the way only teenagers can - as if time were endless, as if love itself were invincible. Then she got sick. Then everything changed. Now Tatsuya stands at the edge of the ocean they once claimed as their own, pressing play on his phone, listening to her laugh one more time before he does what he came here to do. But love this size doesn't stay quiet. And some stories refuse to end where you left them. THE LAST THING I SAID TO YOU is a devastating, unforgettable novel about first love, terminal illness, the weight of unfinished goodbyes, and what it means to finally let go - or not.

Two versions of you, living two different lives, on two sides of a border. Sublimation by Isabel J. Kim had me hooked for twelve hours straight before the ending lost its footing. Doppelgängers, corporate intrigue, and immigration collide in this sharp sci-fi debut. Full review on Views She Writes.
