Welcome to the weird, creepy, and somewhat off-putting world of The Harvest. Here, Things come every Harvest Season to eat all the crops of all the citizens of Town. Thus a ritual has come about; let the Things feast and migrate until their close to the center of Town while the citizens pick as many good and hearty crops as they can. Then, on the 10th full Moon of the Year, have all the citizens meet in Town center to have a Crop Contest/Celebration. Those who yielded the most bountiful harvest get to move to the more arable, more safe plots of land closer to Town center and those who come with poor crop count and condition get the Shunning are moved back to the outskirts of Town. This story follows Birch, a older teen/young adult in this classist, ritualistic society, whom live on Town's outskirts. He wishes to move closer to Town center (as does everyone) but he realizes that the Things have gotten smart, coming earlier than expected and moving much faster... to a point where they could effect everyone and end everyone in Town's way of life as they know it...
