When you're a kid, you kind of assume adults know what they're doing. That if something's missing, there's probably a good reason. Spider grows up without parents, and he tells himself that's just how his life is. But when he's sixteen and finally sees his birth certificate, sees that there's no birthplace listed, something shifts. It's not a mistake. And suddenly, a lot of things start to make sense in a really bad way.
