Akira was Kuvira's friend and confidant growing up in Zaofu. Training under Suyin Beifong, they both became powerful metalbenders. Akira's dust-stepping abilities made her a useful ally to Kuvira and her Earth Empire, but Akira soon realized Kuvira's true intentions after King Wu's coronation, and dissented. After Kuvira's defeat, Akira heads for Republic City in hopes of escaping her old demons, where she joins the police force and becomes partners with Mako. Akira quickly realizes that to be rid of her demons, she has to face them, which could entail an unwanted reuniting. Years later, his older sister Korra was now prepared to master all the elements as the next Avatar but when Kota was out fishing, a mysterious meteor crashed onto the ice.
