What should have happened at the end of Avengers 1.

This takes place straight after the Avengers have defeated the Chitauri. Hulk smashed Loki, who then managed to run away. But soon the avengers find him and also find out about everything he's been through since Thor's coronation. They decide they want to help, but Loki thinks it would be better to stay away. So he runs away.
