Aversion Stories

Food I really dislike when people are compelled to explain why they don't like a food. "It's not that I don't like hot peppers, its just that they don't like me (making a half disgusted, but half smiling face to show they know what they said is gross, but they think its funny)". I dislike that, but what I hate is the incessant question of someone over their food preference. After-all, these question are what snowballs into the unwanted explanations. A: You don't like pork, why?! B. I just don't. A. You have to like it. It's so good. B. Nope A. But, why?! B. Well, if you've gotta know, my mom always said pork was filled with tiny worms. Now, whenever I eat it, the texture looks like a bunch of tiny worms cooked together. A. Disgusting! Why would you say that, now you've ruined pork for me! Ya, its my fault I told you about the worms. You couldn't just shut up and be happy there's more pork, coconut.... for you. Why do we have to like a food. I mean, things like music, clothing, choice in house, job...we are allowed to like and dislike, but for some reason there is such offense taken over what we eat. You are not affected whatsoever by my piece of cake that I choose not to put finger-nail (AKA coconut) shavings on . This is not to say I think you have the right to rude about food. If you are at someone's house and they serve your least favorite dish, and nothing else. Just power through it. We are adults and don't have to spit food out when we don't like it. Swallow it. Parents allow this spitting thing. I've taught my kids that's cowardly and wimpy. Unless you are going anaphylactic, finish your bite and don't have another. Anyway, let's all just keep food aversion stories to ourselves, stop worrying about the food choices of another, and swallow even when you want to spit.
