In the shadow of a dying empire, blood calls for blood. Babylon shines. For decades, Emperor Hammurabi has reigned over a vast empire stretching from the desert to the sacred rivers. But the once-invincible conqueror is now nothing more than an old man whose mind is failing, and his thirteen heirs await the inevitable. When the mysterious city of Der ceases to respond, swallowing hundreds of Babylonians into silence, the capital erupts in chaos. The people rise up. The princes conspire. Alexis, arrogant and despised, crosses the deserts to uncover the secret of Der. Alexandre, naive and hunted, flees from city to city, pursued by mad uncles and ambitious brothers. Fifteen-year-old Iliana finds herself alone in the face of a revolution. To save the empire, she will have to sacrifice her innocence. Amid bloody betrayals and war machines, the empire cracks. Loyalties shatter. In the flames of Babylon, a truth emerges: no empire survives the death of its founder. "English is not my first language. This story was translated from French."

Babylon, one of the most famous cities from ancient Mesopotamia, thrived as a center of culture and power for thousands of years. Its history dates back to around 2300 BC, initially as a small port town on the Euphrates River. Babylon rose to prominence under the rule of King Hammurabi in the 18th century BC, who created one of the world's earliest and most complete written legal codes. The city is perhaps most renowned for its spectacular constructions under Nebuchadnezzar II, who reigned in the 6th century BC. During his rule, Babylon became famed for its immense walls and the Hanging Gardens, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, although the existence of these gardens is debated among historians. Babylon's influence waned after it fell to the Persians in 539 BC, and later, to Alexander the Great in 331 BC. Post-Alexander, the city gradually declined, eventually becoming abandoned over the centuries, leaving only ruins, which were rediscovered in the 19th century. Babylon's legacy endures in its contributions to law, architecture, and literature, leaving an indelible mark on world history and culture.

"So just sit down and write why I did it?" I looked up at the man as I settled into the cold metal seat. "Precisely, Start from the beginning." Did he know how far back my story started? He scooted a piece of paper and pen in my direction. "Okay, but it may take a while. And I'm going to need more paper." He smirked and walked out of the room. I sighed and fiddled with the pen for a while, I knew I was going to have to write one of these sooner or later, just wished it had been later. I filled in the report section with my sloppy handwriting, -FILE: #25-2425-2-151213 SUBJECT: BRIN, CHAKKIYM. The Aftermath SUBMITTED BY: Agent Brin Chakkiym- I stared at the file, willing myself to start, trying to remember. "Here goes nothin'." I flipped open the notebook, "Chapter one..."

Across the Great tower, past the clusters of adobe homes, through the arching gates stands the Gardens. Praying to her are the people of the ancient world. There is a pause and like dusk turns to dawn she sits idle upon her thrown and her people pray no more, her people are not to be found, her and her Garden are erased. There was a place known as Babylon and once in this old kingdom was a Garden and some say that on a Throne in that Garden sat a Queen... a witch as some called her, she was desired by all men cherished by all women and feared by all enemies. When on the battlefield to whisper "Semiramis" was to whisper death itself, as swords clashed and men roared, calm would water rise to the knees of all and quickly would the fog roll in. The men would quite down and there would be a sound of cool tides splashing, soon accompanied by slithering and as the men cowered hissing could clearly be heard as the fog rolled away as quickly as it came and the ocean receded from the desert plains, the forces of Babylon would rejoice in victory.
