Drum set player Julia McCoy is not a typical marching band member. Forced to move across country and become a rookie as a junior, the newest tenor drummer deals with an intense Instructor, a cheerleader and the possibility of love in her own section. Told in engaging first person, Confessions of a Teenage Band Geek is not your typical YA story. Protagonist Julia McCoy's plans for an amazing junior year suddenly shift when her parents announce they are moving from SoCal to Atlanta, GA. Resilient and optimistic Julia launches herself into her new life and starts by joining the marching band. A talented drum set player, the blonde proves herself as an intense percussionist and is awarded a spot in the tenor section, a subsection of Westlake high school's competitive drumline. In addition, Julia joins a local rock band, Beans and Cornbread, and begins teaching drum set lessons. Events in the fast-paced novel work around band camp, Beans and Cornbread's first show, an 'impacting' first marching band competition, sneaky cheerleading exes and an exciting Homecoming week. Fans of Courtney Brandt's Line series will be happy to see cameos from previous characters make appearances. Cover artwork by Helen Heinig. © Copyright 2013 Courtney Brandt. All Rights Reserved. High school in the early 90s: it was before cell phones and social media, but the problems were the same. How do you get the guy you're interested in to notice you? What happens if you fall in love with your best friend? Why does physics class keep factoring into your love life? This novella is loosely based on my own high school experiences... but sort of an alternate version of them. You can only make one set of choices in life, so it's fun to explore what could have been - but wasn't - in fiction. Also, set in 1991-92, this is kind of a period piece now! In some ways it's a love letter to the teen books I read back in the 80s and 90s, in particular those by Ellen Conford and Paula Danzinger. I hope you enjoy it. This story was featured on Wattpad in 2016.

They are both players. She is in the band and plays the saxophone, he is star of the football team, and plays with girls hearts. Blake Torres and Grayson Taylor have gone to the same boarding school for years. Going to a small school means that they know each other, have had classes together, maybe even done a group project together, but other than that, they are complete strangers. When an incident occurs, throwing Blake and Grayson together, they will begin to learn things about each other that they never could have imagined. Is the football player meant to be with the band geek, or does that only happen in Taylor Swift songs?

Ever wonder what would happen if you ran into your old High School crush as an Adult? This is that story: How was I supposed to know he'd stroll back into my life so suddenly, almost 13 years later? They say every girl has that one guy- the one that you can never erase. The one you can't even compare others to because you're too busy trying to forget him. Everyone said it was a crush- but I lost three years of my life to it. Maybe this would make more sense if I started at the beginning...
