Bandroom Stories

A bandroom is not just another room to those who practice in here. Everyone needs a "bandroom" Have you found yours? This Personal Narrative follows my first day of band camp, where I knew next to no one. The people I met that day became my friends for life in the future, but for now I'm a nervous wreak. I then describe the meaning of a "bandroom" and even if you were never in band, you can (hopefully) relate to what it is with your own "bandroom". Maybe it's the gym, a friend's house, your place of work, your school, or maybe your own home. Wherever it is for you, I hope you've found it. A small portion of the story: Surrounded by unknown faces, trembling with insecurities, and radiating with awkwardness, my eyes cautiously scan the unknown hallway and my heart beats as I hope to see a friend, but no luck. My left hand is stuffed into my black jacket pocket and the other has a cobra's grip on the one thing I wouldn't trade anything for; the one thing that's got me through middle school so far: my golden trumpet, held in its hard-back, heavy, black securing case
