[Ken x Fem!Reader] On Ken's journey to find out who he really is, he meets you (his long-time crush)-a discontinued Barbie named "Basic Barbie"-and you join him, along with other discontinued dolls, in discovering that you all aren't "basic" at all. Warnings: A smidge of angst (self-discovery sort of stuff, friendship repairs), Ken is a warning in and of himself, uh... beach? A/N: This is just something I thought I'd write for fun, because I loved the "Barbie" movie. Thank you so much to my bff (irl) for helping me create the plot for this and bringing the "Kenergy" to it! The idea of "Basic Barbie" was created by me (yay) and isn't supposed to share any resemblance with any other Barbie. If it does, I didn't mean to do that, sorry lol. Otherwise, Barbie and Mattel (the movie and the doll/brand) do not belong to me. Sorry (not sorry) if this is cheesy (so was the movie but no one complains about that 'cause it was that good) as this is not my best writing, but I wanted to do something fun and spontaneous, and "Barbie" is the best place to start. Barbara Handler befriends a pregnant woman at the obstetrics clinic waiting room, while she waits to be called for her first-ever check-up. She feels remorseful about having ignored her pregnant neigbor Midge and apologizes to her symbolically, talking to a customized Barbie doll dressed up as a pregnant woman. This action causes a reaction in Barbieland, where Midge suddenly starts to feel her baby kicking and Weird Barbie appears to be magically pregnant. Meanwhile, Ken struggles to find himself in a world where there is a glass ceiling for men. Allan finds out about the pregnancy portal and travels through it with Weird Barbie and Midge...and Ken? Will Ken find a way to escape to the Real World and look for his own identity there? What is Barbara learning about adult life and why does Sasha seem more mature than her? Will Gloria, her husband, Mattel personnel or any of their ghosts be of any help and guidance to the characters in their different quests? Let's find out... Sneak peek: "Ken?" The long-delayed 2022-2023 Film Journal continues with the equally long-overdue forty-third entry, featuring "Barbie". Here, I take a detailed look at the highly unusual and one-of-a-kind experience that surrounds and defines this film that I had a very unexpected reaction to.

Barbie lives in the magical, perfectly perfect world of Barbieland with all her fellow Barbies, some Midges, and many different Kens. When she starts to wonder what life is really all about, she journeys to the real world to find some answers. But little does she know her lovesick friend Ken has stowed away to join Barbie on her fish-out-of-water journey to Los Angeles, California. Will Barbie find the answers she's looking for? Or was she better off staying inside her box of a world? This version of Barbie takes elements from the movie, but it is rewritten to be more family friendly, lots of fun, and has more comedic, as well as romantic, moments in it that we did not get from the film.
