The first story in a series of first encounters with NPCs that I have either created and come across in my Dungeons & Dragons adventures. A group of adventurers encounter and befriend an odd character in the wilds of Barovia despite his... unique skin condition.

With her coming-of-age trial finally complete, Chultan royal Duna Celys is left with the reality that she will soon be fully integrated into a system of politics, tradition, and formality that she has never wanted for herself. Underweight and looked down on among her peers, she's found disgrace in the actions of her people, but has never known the world beyond. With the choices before her, she must make a decision to either take what she can and flee into a world much larger than she could have imagined, or remain within her shackles and hope to not lose herself to the cogs of the trade city's routines. The young woman has little time to decide where she will take her place in the world, or what it yet means to do so. Across the world, a daring and renowned bounty hunter for the Adventurer's Guild of Neverwinter falls prisoner to the vampire Prince Strahd von Zarovich- her most recent task. With Barovia's people trapped within the mystical veil Strahd holds over the valley, the hunter's knowledge could free them- if she manages to escape his terrible grasp.
