There's a saying which goes like this; "Sometimes, you have to hurt the ones you love in order to save them." I never truly understood those words until one day, I did. That was the day I was diagnosed with blood cancer at just sixteen years old. The scariest thing to me back then wasn't even the fact that I was probably going to die, It was the thought of the amount of grief and sadness my family and friends were going to face if I eventually passed. I was scared. I was scared that my suffering was going to cause the people that I loved pain. And so what did I do? I ran. I ran away like the coward I was. But, before I disappeared, I made sure that I made the one person I couldn't live without hate my very existence. Before I disappeared, I did something that broke me, but would've eventually saved my ex. Before I disappeared, I silenced the melody in Tyler's heart. My name is Lyra Davis, and this is my story.

Some people excel in math, some love human interaction, and some people have feelings. I unfortunately do not have any of these characteristics. {error:} Being a robot, I'm not supposed to be aware of myself. I'm not supposed to have any other thoughts or feelings other than what is in my programing. However, that's not the reality. I do think for myself. I have feelings and I can pick up on human cues, sometimes more often than most humans can. I have no desire to end the world or terminate all humans. In fact, I wish I could raise a mini human of my own. They don't give babies to robots. Especially to ones that are programed to do assassinations. {error:} I've got to get back to filling inventory for the office now, bye!

It is quite simple to fall in love with someone you've known all your life. Or say someone from the same state. Or even the same country. But do you know what happens when you fall for someone who has lived all his life half the way across the globe from you? Someone with a different upbringing, different religion and language. It's definitely not a walk in the park, that much I can assure you. The worst part? Figuring out if he, if we, were worth it all. Falling in love is easy, but staying in love, that is the real struggle.

"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." - Nelson Mandela. "In 2019-20, the number of students ages 3-21 who received special education services under the Individual with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) was 7.3 million, or 14 percent of all public school students." - Students With Disabilities (2021), National Center for Education Statistics. Resources for students with disabilities are widely disbursed and accessible in grade school; however, university environments pose a barrier to education that discourage students from striving for post-secondary education. This essay is on my experience at a high-ranking university as a graduate student with invisible disabilities. I might not change the world, but I can inform others about the struggle for a fair opportunity to succeed.
