He felt his nerves racing as he stood in front of the house, watching the light spilling out through the first-floor window. It was late and the road was deserted if not for him and a few moths flying around the streetlamp. He's been standing there for a while clutching the spare key in his hands as the hesitation concocted from many emotions held him back from going in. Steeling his nerves, he opened the gate and walked towards the front door with steps falling behind his quickening heartbeat. The living room was quiet. He glanced around settling his racing heart with deep breaths. He left a note on the table before walking towards the stairs with a small smile trying to tug the right corner of his lips. The room's door wasn't locked, and he walked in without knocking. The lights were on but there was no one around. He opened the window and looked out to where he was standing before.
