Kiyan never expected to be the Avatar. And now that she is, she's finding she never even wanted to be. She's used to her old life as a simple waterbender, with no great spiritual burdens or destinies or whatever nonsense this Avatar business has suddenly forced on her. Now, she's constantly on the run from the crazy lunatics who murdered the last two Avatars, and who've made it their mission to end the Cycle entirely. In an attempt to finally get her out of their reach, her protectors decide that a time machine is the way to go, and send her back to 130AG, to Republic City to seek mentoring from Avatar Aang himself. There's just one tiny problem. She's thirty years off target. Kiyan decides to wait out the end of the Hundred Years War in a little Earth Kingdom village with the family who's been kind enough to take her in. After all, she's safe there, and she never asked for this whole Avatar deal anyway. Unfortunately, fate has other plans, and her masterful strategy for avoiding danger is thrown into chaos with the arrival of a familiar scarred swordsman. This takes place after Zuko ascends to Fire Lord, Toph is in Ba Sing Se, Katara is in the Northern Water Tribe, Sokka is in the Southern Water Tribe, and Aang is traveling the world due to a vision from the Spirit World.

An OC x Zuko (ATLA) fanfic. Laina Xu (A name she uses to conceal her true identity) is a spy working for the Dai Li, tasked with tracking and reporting Fire Nation ships. Undercover, she is moved from her post on the Northern fleet to the crown prince's ship, where she has been asked to help him track down the Avatar. Laina is met with the shell of the Prince she once knew years ago, before his infamous Agni Kai. She begrudgingly attempts to regain the relationship they once had whilst tracking down the illusive Avatar. She has an even bigger secret, though: Laina is a dual bender. A rare occurrence where two twins in the womb possess different bending elements. One twin at an early time absorbs the other and gains that element. Laina happened to be that twin. Dual bending being illegal and punishable by death in both the Earth Kingdom and the Fire Nation, Laina must conceal it from everyone. What happens when she is met with the most challenging decision of her life? Choose to stay with Prince Zuko, continue to work for the Dai Li, or join the Avatar in an attempt to right her wrongs? this story is told from zuko's point of view and is packed with a lot of angst, so be prepared for an emotional rollercoaster. It's a detailed story with many chapters, each filled with intense moments and deep character development. despite sukka being in the tags, this is a zukka-focused story. sukka doesn't last long ofc. this story includes scenes of verbal and physical abuse inflicted on zuko by ozai.
