The Beltzoak, beings so advanced they wield quantum paradoxes as weapons, encounter an object that shouldn't be a threat. A crude, trembling disc-like something out of a 1950s sci-fi myth-floats before them, untouched by singularities, mocking their power. What follows is not a battle, but a lesson: they were never the predators. They were the prey.

"Tales of Survival and Revenge" is the theme of BEGINNINGS I. GENESIS and RESURRECTION is the story of violence, heartbreak and the genesis of a bitter cycle of murder and revenge around the Basque country in Spain. BEGINNINGS : Where A Life Begins, is an epic action-packed novel set around the escape of a talented but troubled young mother and her strangely perceptive daughter from the violence of fascist Spain at the end of its bloody civil war and their struggle to make a new life in southwest France. The next two decades bring war, Nazi occupation, political unrest, the birth of the Basque terrorist movement and the appearance of an undercover Franco military officer seeking revenge for millennia-old grievance. Exploring a vast historical sweep of thousands of years, it is filled to the brim with powerful characters, violence, romance, true historical detail, multi-layered themes of love, hate, murder, revenge and political intrigue as well as a dose of science, myth and mystery. In I. GENESIS and RESURRECTION, the story begins with Maria - alone, heavily pregnant and with her baby son in her arms - desperately fleeing the persecution inflicted on her people by the Fascist dictator Franco at the end of the Spanish civil war. On her escape into France, her infant son is the victim of a callous border guard but she and her unborn daughter are saved by an unknown assassin; both actions echoing past and future violence and vengeance. The trauma sends the unborn child's mind deep into the past where a horrible crime against her ancestors in prehistoric times hints at the genesis of otherwise inexplicable hatred and violence that have often re-surfaced down through the centuries. Back in Bayonne, Maria buries her infant son in a world of self-recriminations. It is only through communion with her unborn child and a new friend that she begins to face life again, but unaware of just how dangerous the birth of her new child may turn out to be.

Spain, 1942. General Franco, despite his own beliefs, has made the country neutral. At least, in theory. Spain, as thanks for Germany's aid during the civil war, provides plenty of arms to the German army. And with tensions between Spain's different political factions still high, the entire country seems to be one spark from another all out war. San Sebastian, the seaside city that American reporter Jackie Ramirez currently calls home, is a seeming paradise. Even with the vacationing German officers in the city, it's hard to think that just twelve miles away, across the Pyrenees in France, the war is alive and well. However, with the imminent threat of being sent back to the states if she doesn't find the scoop of a lifetime, the war is the farthest thing from her mind. However, when she witnesses the murder of a German officer at the hands of a mysterious Frenchman, the war is brought right to Jackie's doorstep, and she finds herself wrapped up in it in ways she never could have imagined.

Thomas D'Cozzi is not a thief, though he'd rob you blind given half the chance. Not a revolutionary, but he'd quite happily throw wrenches into the gears of society and see the underdogs succeed. He's not a diplomat, or a businessman, or a philosopher even if many such people would call him friend and rival both. What Thomas is then is a professional opportunist. One who seeks out the gaps in society, both high and low, and then exploits them to their fullest. He's spent the last decade plus romping through post Great War Europe and beyond, with few attachments and no real direction to speak of. But when adventure lands him amid the gathering storm of the Spanish Civil War in the homeland of the Basques, Thomas will find himself caught between the ghosts of a people who remain, solid and stoic as the hills in which they've made their homes for millennia, and the horrors of war which have come to try and dislodge them. She Talks to Angels is a story of the powerful and the powerless. Of the nature of choice and destiny, and what it is to live among the ashes of history. Thomas D'Cozzi has built his life upon an uncompromising freedom, but can he survive in a land of ancient gods, expected monsters, and above all, certainty?
