A young cougar named P.32 because of a tag given him by wildlife biologists lives in the mountains of Southern California and longs to cross the new Wildlife Bridge for an adventure in the bit city below. Although Mom Cougar has told P. 32 and his three sisters (P. 29, P.30, P. 31. and P.32 that they are too young to cross the bridge, early one morning before the rest of the family is awake curious P.32 leaves the den and goes down the mountain and across the bridge. Once in the city he meets three strays: Checkers, a smart border collie; Sarge, a food-loving basset hound and Petunia, a sensitive gray and white short-haired cat.
