After being struck by a blast of lightning from Thor's hammer, Charlotte Byrne begins to develop abilities. Suddenly she can see people's emotions in an aura around them, make people feel emotions and even see into a person's heart and see the good and bad there. But there's one other thing. These abilities and the Lichtenberg scars aren't the only things left over from the blast. Now she has this connection to Thor, she knows where Thor is all the time at any given moment and can sometimes even see out of his eyes. She always believed the her father hated her because he blames her for the death of his parents. While on their way to meet the new member of the Stark family they supposedly crashed and died. Elizabeth is named after her aunt Peggy Carter and her late grandmother Maria Stark. Tony sent her to boarding schools around the world, causing her to be able to speak multiple languages. At 17 she returns back to California to take over Stark Industries after her father went missing. When he returns three months later she leaves again. Three years later, at the age of 21, She returns to New York at the request of old friends and colleagues, Natasha Romanoff, Clint Barton, and Nick Fury, to join the new team, named Avengers, along with her father.

No one is sure how widespread the creature attacks are, but they are well equipped. Entire buildings have been levelled by humongous flying serpentine ships piloted by these creatures, and smaller one manned ships patrol the streets. Melanie is caught up in all of this. Her ambulance drove over rubble and has overturned. She and her colleague driver try to hide from the creatures and she spots a man, hurt, being dragged away by one of them.

Whilst planning the Attack on New York, Loki attracts the attention of Thanos by his use of the Tesseract. Before being captured by the Avengers of Earth, Loki his the Tesseract away somewhere within the Nine Realms. The Avengers seek to gain control of the Tesseract to protect Earth from Thanos but despite their best efforts they cannot convince Loki to give up the location of the Tesseract. Natasha Romanoff calls in an old friend that she thinks can have some sway over the God of Mischief. Or, Iron Man doesn't find Thor as quickly after he took Loki off the quinjet, and the brothers have a much needed conversation with unexpected revelations which sets off an unforeseen series of events.
