Nia never asked to be the Chosen One. She never wanted magic, never wanted a prophecy hanging over her head, never wanted to be destined for a fight she doesn't understand. But here she is, barely controlling her power, barely passing her classes, and definitely not ready to face whatever is coming for her. In the aftermath of the events in Carry On, Simon Snow must learn to live without magick. With help from his roommates Penelope Bunce and Baz Pitch, he must navigate this new life, and the responsibilities that come with it; his inheritance of the headmaster position at Watford Academy, and the protection of his loved ones, all without magick. All of this to juggle, along with the appearance of a new, dangerous threat to the world of mages.

Baz dropped his head onto the edge of Simon's bed, next to Simon's limp hand. "I'd take all of your stupidity if it meant I could have you back." ~ Or, when Goblins put Simon in a coma, Baz isn't sure what he's supposed to do with himself. He settles for never leaving Simon's side.

After getting his information from the Numpties, Baz stays behind to talk to Nicodemus, then picks up a dog that's been possessed by Penelope. But what if he didn't? What if he stormed right into Watford? What if he faced the Mage rather than Agatha?

After something goes wrong between Agatha and Simon on their 7th year holiday break, Snow finds himself at the home of his worst enemy searching for help. The strangest thing- Baz is willing to assist.
