Arthur and Morgana overhear Merlin's conversation with his mother, and after magic is used in the fight, they both realize that Merlin is a sorcerer. Despite not really wanting to, Arthur decides that Merlin should stay in Ealdor. Now it's Morgana's job to kick Arthur back to Ealdor to get their friend back. But that is not the only reason Arthur wants Merlin to stay with him. Set in the episode 1x10 The Moment of Truth.

While Merlin says goodbye to unconscious Arthur and confesses his love for him, Arthur can hear him. He knows that Merlin is planning to sacrifice his life for him, but he can't do anything to stop him. When Merlin bursts through the door and sees Arthur there, he has no idea what the prince will do. But the length to which Arthur is willing to go for Merlin will surprise them both. "Fetch the mattress from my quarters and bring it up here," Arthur commanded. Merlin doubted that that was even possible. "How am I supposed to carry a mattress on my own?" "I don't know, strap it to your back." But what was he supposed to do when Arthur gave the order? This is a fic about how Merlin actually did manage to carry the mattress all the way from Arthur's chambers to Gwen's house on his own, although at a great cost. (He was exhausted afterwards.) Although, maybe when he's so tired, Arthur will allow him to stay at Gwen's and share the mattress? (It was rather enormous for just one person, wasn't it?) Arthur wakes up in the middle of the night because of Merlin's loud snoring. But wait, what the hell is Merlin doing in Arthur's chambers at night? Sleeping in a chair with a dagger in his hand?

When Morgana takes the Mage Stone to bring it to Tauren and to offer her help in killing Uther, Merlin follows her. Unfortunately for him, Morgana finds him and Merlin accidentally reveals his magic to her by touching the stone. They have a lot to talk about now. For example, will Merlin be willing to help Morgana kill Arthur's father? Set in the episode 1x12 To Kill the King

When both Gwen and Merlin witness another accident caused by Morgana's magic, there is no more denying. Despite Gaius' strong advice against it, Merlin decides to help Morgana and tell her and Gwen about his magic. Meanwhile, Arthur follows Merlin to Morgana's chambers to inform him that he needs to let her rest and should absolutely not be bringing her flowers. Because she needs to rest. No other reason of course. Nope. Set in the episode 2x03 The Nightmare Begins.

Cedric never stood a chance against Merlin and Arthur. Not when they are literally two sides of the same coin, bound by destiny, and especially not when they're secretly dating and trust each other with everything. Or-Cedric doesn't notice Merlin in Arthur's bed when he goes to steal Arthur's keys in the middle of the night, and that's his undoing. So no. He never stood a chance.
