Cosmetic products that claim to erase wrinkles, lighten age spots, and remove itching, flaking, or redness cost billions of dollars annually. But avoiding the sun is the easiest and least expensive way to maintain healthy, youthful-looking skin. Age spots, dryness, and wrinkles are all largely brought on by sunlight. As you age, your skin does change. For example, you perspire less, which causes your skin to become more dry. Skin that is getting older loses fat and gets thinner, giving the appearance of less smoothness and plumpness. Particularly the bones and veins beneath the skin start to show more clearly. When your skin is injured, it may also take longer for it to heal. Avoiding exposure to sunlight can significantly postpone these changes.
