"When Beauty Goes Wrong" tells the tragic story of Diana Mukeli, an ambitious yet fragile young actress. Constantly haunted by industry criticism about her appearance, which was deemed "less than perfect," Diana takes a drastic step: undergoing a series of subtle cosmetic procedures to "perfect" her face in pursuit of the role she desperately desires. Under the charismatic promises of Dr. Miles, Diana envisions a seamless future. However, after the operation and the removal of the bandages, horror awaits her. Instead of perfection, her face has become a horrifying stranger; too tight, subtly asymmetrical, and her eyes permanently wide, eliminating her natural ability to emote. Diana soon realizes that the surgery has destroyed, rather than enhanced. Her career immediately stalls, as her new face is incapable of conveying emotion, the very essence of her profession. The final blow comes when her close friend fails to recognize her. "When Beauty Goes Wrong" is a devastating cautionary tale about the obsession with perfection in Hollywood, and how in the pursuit of an idealized self-image, Diana loses the most valuable thing: her authentic original face and her own identity.

Hai! Right now, I am in a much needed healing process where I learn how to love myself and embrace every "flaw" and "insecurity" I have. I was in a moment where I was slowly breaking and going deeper and deeper into nothingness. I realized how judgemental I am towards myself and how toxic it became. So, I wrote a letter to my future self. This letter is a tap on the shoulder and encouragement to me if I ever feel not worthy in the future. I decided to share it here because I know I'm not alone in this and we are living in a time where we bring people down with stereotypes and "trends." Let's change that. I hope this letter helped you in any way like it helped me. Baibai :)

FOR THE "UGLY" BLACK GIRL is not a pity story. It's a manifesto. A reclamation. A love letter to every Black girl who's ever been made to feel invisible, undesirable, or "not enough." They called us ugly. We call it U.G.L.Y.-Uplifting Greatness, Loving Yourself. This book dives deep into the scars left by beauty standards, colorism, and generational wounds that taught us to shrink. It's about unlearning their lies and unearthing the light that's always been inside you. You don't have to prove your beauty to a world that profits off your doubt. You were always the blueprint. For every Black girl who's been overlooked-this is your becoming.

I was a happy, outgoing, confident kid in elementary school, but that changed all because of one statement in middle school. I was insecure, self-conscious, and extremely shy. A comment I heard from one guy at school had brought me to my lowest. His opinion had changed how I viewed myself in a split of a second. I changed my appearance so, that I would fit his beauty standard. This story explains the instance when it had all started. Fortunately now in high school, my story "concaves up"...I am confident again. You can care, but never care too much. Always remember that it is your life and the people around you are merely people with thoughts; thoughts that shouldn't effect yours.

A very short scenario on self-representation, and the painful inner turmoil and trauma of living with hirsutism (excessive body hair, usually caused by hormonal imbalance, chronic hormonal conditions, genetics, or a combination). The author imagines what love would ideally look like if they embraced acceptance, in a society that has historically negatively portrayed the existence of the hairy women. An entry I found in my private journal written in 2019. A made-up scenario, which at the time was a way to help me vent during a severe period of depression, and safely indulge and acknowledge my longing for love, despite deep internalised shame. An ode to embracing all bodies, especially to the ones that no one writes about.

Had to write a short story in my English class about self-harmony, self-discovery, self-whatever... I wasn't very pleased with the task nor the themes required and was extremely bitter while writing it. However, I am thoroughly pleased with my work. (And I also got an A+, so that felt amazing!) Hope you enjoy! :)

A small portion of the oppression of every woman who has ever dealt with body insecurities and shame for who they are based off of their looks. This is what we have ignored as a community, which is why it has been able to continue in daily life still to this day.
