All of her family members and friends hunt Vampires. Killing them for the dust that they produce after they die, the dust has magical properties that can give people unlimited power to either use for good or misuse it and destroy themselves and the world. When Jess befriends a vampire she realizes how wrong this is and will do whatever she can to protect them from people that want to destroy them.
