"This is not just a coming-of-age story. It's a coming-out-in-pain story. A coming-to-truth story. A story for boys like me." Born under the scorching Jamaican sun, Joshua grows up in a world that mocks, shames, and punishes boys who are different. From a childhood marked by assault and silence to the bitter betrayals of queer love and the sting of public shame, Boys Like Me follows a young man's harrowing journey toward truth, survival, and self-acceptance. Spanning ten years, from the streets of St. Elizabeth to the frozen sidewalks of Canada; this raw, emotional, and unapologetic story explores trauma, queerness, religion, resilience, and the complicated cost of becoming yourself. 📍 Trigger Warnings: Child abuse, sexual trauma, suicide ideation, homophobia, religious condemnation, HIV stigma. 🖤 LGBTQ+ | Based on True Events | Caribbean Voice ‼️Disclaimer‼️ This is a fictionalized story inspired by true events. Author and writer: alwande bembe Instagram page is @prec.iose It was that time where my parents couldn't afford alot of things. We found ourselves in a village. Yes I did go to school but I wasn't paying school fees. Well.. I didn't really have friends, but I soon got used to it. Life was just rough, I was constantly bullied and even on top of that my dad was soo aggressive, he was so strict with me, he would beat me until I had blood. He did not hit me only but was also abusive toward my mother, I really wanted him to go but my mom was always on his side! But soon enough my mom divorced him and dated a new guy. Well he was a very good guy.. Not to mention he was sooo rich, we soon moved to Guateng, Pretoria and he brought us a huge mansion.. Life started to be good. I was popular in my new school and every boy wanted to date me, it felt like a dream Until I was influenced by my friends and I forgot about my family, money suddenly changed me. I started to be disrespectful, rude, sassy and all bad you can think of :| Well it started like this : My stepfather started losing focus on my mom and soon he decided to leave us without saying a word, he took everything of his, all his money. My mom and I were really broken without him because he had the love of a father that we've never experienced.. Well I guess life happened.. Me and my mom had to move into a smaller house because she couldn't really afford a big house I really didn't want that low life I was already used to being high and rich, so I decided to marry this other man because of his riches, yes I didn't love him! But I never wanted to be poor, we soon had kids but then I wasn't really happy..

Eliza Claiborne and Jack Parker have been best friends ever since the Claiborne family welcomed the Parkers to the neighborhood back in 1977. While Jack comes from a wholesome household of three older brothers and happily married parents, Eliza's family could not be more of the opposite. The Claiborne family has a secret skeleton in the closet--- The Thing We Don't Talk About--- constantly looming over them and tarnishing their family dynamic. But with the help of the Parker family, Eliza's burdens of her family are lightened with their love and care. However, Jack isn't the only new boy in town. On the first day of fifth grade, Eliza becomes infatuated with Tom Kennedy after he assists her to the nurses office when she gets injured at recess. Seven years go by, and at the beginning of their senior year in 1984, Tom finally starts to give Eliza the time of day. Jack and Eliza's other friend, Stacy McCafferty, are concerned about the blossoming relationship--- not only because of the rumor that has haunted Tom ever since he came to town, but also because Eliza's rose-colored glasses continue to fog her vision on who Tom really is. Will she be able to figure it out for herself before it's too late? Stream of Solace is a book about heart. As the story unfolds of two friends navigating the hardships of life--- betrayal of loved ones, hurt from unhealed trauma, figuring out the next step of their futures--- every reader can find something to relate to with the reliance that, no matter the struggle, they are not alone in what they face. CONTENT WARNING Suicidal ideation/tendencies PTSD symptoms Physical, mental, and emotional abuse Brief mentions of self-harm and sexual assault Gun violence Vulgar language ADDITIONAL CAUTION This is not a typical romance story. Please read accordingly.

It's crucial for parents to strike a balance between encouraging their children to succeed and allowing them the freedom to explore their own interests and passions. Open communication, empathy, and understanding are essential in fostering a supportive environment where children feel valued and accepted for who they are, rather than solely for their accomplishments or adherence to societal expectations.

This is exactly as the title says. I wanted to use my experiences as a way of helping myself and other people. In the times where I felt alone, it was always nice to read or hear or someone sharing their similar experiences and how they moved through it. I'd posted this book prior, but in one of my really bad mental health moments, I over thought about it, called myself a fool and deleted it. On the encouragement of a friend, I decided to repost, even if no one reads, or if it helps no one, I'm going to post it for me. So I can say to myself that I'm brave enough to share how I think and feel. I wanted to encourage myself to use the outlet that best suits me, I'm a writer, and thats how I express myself freely. Even if I'm not willing to speak it out because it's painful, or I'm too shy, at least I wrote it out and shared it. I want this to be a safe space of sorts, where someone can just vent if they feel like it in comments, or something to read to know that whatever they're facing, they are not alone. I want it to be a judgemental free zone, for all those who expressed how they felt and received judgement for it. ❤❤
