When Darcy and Everett Swanson discover an abandoned egg, their quiet life on Mistvale Pond is forever changed. Taking a leap of faith, the two swans decide to become fathers to the strange new hatchling they name River. As River grows, her very nature clashes with the tranquil traditions of the pond, making her a target for whispers and unkind judgments. Together with her dads, River struggles to navigate a world that doesn't understand her while trying to hold onto her unique spirit. After a difficult experience at traditional school, they all begin to wonder if River will ever find her place in the world. This is a moving story about family, identity, and the extraordinary power of love to help a young alligator finally make her own way in the world.

If I told you my name was Lilac what would you think? Most people would think of a beautiful delicate purple flower. No matter how much i try to be a normal girl loving unicorns and rainbows and no sport other than dance( yes these are most stereotypes i'm given) does not work being naturally athletic and loving all sports. I also have a brother Evan, who has totally convinced me that sports and academics are my life. But being a girl, having a diva as an older sister and wishing boys would stop treating me like a normal girl ( stereotypes and all) makes me only try harder to prove them wrong.

"Is there no place in this world for such a little person like me?" He smiles, his lips twisting cruelly at the right corner. He shakes his head. "No." Never do the kids at school let a day pass without making fun of 4'8 Mayra Cohens. Absolutely no one takes the dwarfish figure more serious than a six year old. Could you imagine what life would be like through the eyes of someone that the world towers over? With the average woman standing eight inches above her and the guy she's desperately in love with rejecting her because of her height, Mayra Cohens knows that her life is doomed to be spent, figuratively, at the bottom of the ocean. If she could only shout from the top of Mount Everest.

Here lays a short story based on a question one teenager asks to a friend, one that no one should ever have to ask. *********************************************************** When I was small I was told that everyone was worth of being heard, of having the benefit of the doubt, that I would at some point in life face situations when I would truthfully be distrust but all I had to do was tell the truth, after all The truth shall set you free. Here is one of the questions I've tried to answer but I've yet to find an answer.
