Amaranth Lee has gone through a lot in her 17 years of life; more than any teen should have to go through. Her mom died when Amaranth was just a young girl; her half sister left when she turned 17, too fed up with their dad to stay for her younger sister; the list goes on for miles. And the cherry on top of the shit-cake that is her life, her aunt throws her out after her dad dies. Amaranth feels like people would rather leave than stay and attempt to deal with her.
