Beowulf Histórias

My Collection is just as the title reads. It is an ongoing compilation of poems, stories, or other pieces of literature I have written and I felt were worthy enough to be shared with all of the eyes that fall upon it. As of right now, I am still finding pieces to add to my growing collection. I hope you enjoy what I had to write for high school. -Hannah <3

I originally published this novel in 1990 (before Wattpad existed), and the sequel-The Rood and the Torc: The Song of Kristinge, Son of Finn-in 2014. I'm thinking about republishing The Finnsburg Encounter. I've made part I available on Wattpad; comment and let me know when you're ready for part II. The tale here set forth of Finn and Hildeburh grew out of a small portion of the Old English heroic poem Beowulf. After Beowulf's victory over the monster Grendel, the hero and his brave companions gather together in Heorot, the famous hall of Danish king Hrothgar, to celebrate. In that portion of the poem, often called "The Finnsburg Episode of Beowulf" (lines 1064-1124), Hrothgar's poet sings a song about the famous battle of Finn and Hnaef. The tale is retold in brief by the Beowulf poet-a story within a story, as it were. At the time that Beowulf was composed, that tale of Finn and Hildeburh was probably well-known, and so the Beowulf poet needed only to give a brief summary of the events. Now, however, many centuries later, the full story of these events is long lost. All we know of the tragic tale of Finn is what we read in that small episode of Beowulf, and in a cryptic fragment of another poem which was discovered, transcribed by the scholar George Hickes, and then lost, but which seems to relate closely to the events told by the Beowulf poet. Here then is given, as recreated in the imagination of the author, a fuller tale of Finn and Hildeburh, and of the events leading up to the fight at Finnsburg. No knowledge of Beowulf is necessary, but those who are familiar with that great poem may enjoy these speculations. In order to give a more realistic, historical flavor to the tale, I have placed the events during a particular period of history, namely the early seventh century.

The first part of a larger project to novelize the epic poem "Beowulf," this first chapter details the life of Shield Sheafson, founder of the Danish nation who is the focus of the first 52 lines of the epic. This novelization adds a lot of backstory that the poem does not offer, though I remain faithful to the original text that exists. The retelling also tries to connect the many stories within the story of "Beowulf," creating a universe where different characters and events are interconnected. "Beowulf" is an ancient Anglo-Saxon epic poem about the life of a Viking warrior and hero. If you are into adventure stories and/or Vikings, you will enjoy this story!

This is a short story I wrote my Sophomore year of high school for an Honors English project. I received the highest grade in the class. It's fan fiction written in first person from the main character's point of view. Based on the book Beowulf. Enjoy.

This is the Beowulf Fan Fic I had to write for my British Literature Class. The story is written to the best of my abilities to mimic the writing style of the original Epic Poem (e.g. lots of alliteration, kennings, and everything being written in lines). Also, the many uses of commas everywhere isn't me being bad at English, it is a style choice I intentionally went for to mimic the way the original way the Epic Poem sounds since I'm bad at writing meter I went for the commas to get a similar effect. The story takes place after the first half of the original story (the part where Grendel and Grendel's mother bits) but before the final battle/plot with the dragon. Thus, it is the intermate part of the title of this story. I wrote, edited, and compiled the story and concept of creatures used in this story goes the blog Goblin Punch. Beowulf, a great hero among the Geats and the Danes. Grendel, the horrible creature spawned from a great demon that terrorized Hrothgar and his people. Beowulf is summoned to help. He succeeds in taking the monster's arm, expecting him to die. But things go horribly wrong when Grendel comes back, alive and strong, seeking his revenge.
