When Melody's dad remarries after losing her mother to skin cancer Melody is forced to live with her stepbrother, Austin. Melody learns that her life is no longer glamorous with another sibling in the house, especially a brother, the son her dad always wanted. Slowly Melody bonds with Austin, but is pulled farther away from her father. Despite being pulled away from her father Melody is brought closer to an unavoidable, old flame, and he wants to be a raging fire. As Melody struggles with her dad being focused on Austin and him trying to get her affection, her best friends, Sadie and Cynthia, help her through it. After many close moments something happens to Austin that leaves Melody's world shattered. Her world is falling apart as well as her life. With her old flame becoming stronger than ever, and her dad and stepmom unapproachable after what happened to Austin, and Cynthia wrapped up with her new 'job' life is dark and fearful. With no one to turn to Melody slowly sinks into depression, until one day she wonders if life is even worth it.
