When they do escape they end up stranded on a planet that's had no experience traveling outside their word. It's not a primitive planet, they've just had no need to leave their atmosphere. The two are stuck on this planet until the rest of Voltron can find them. Until then they need to heal, get used to sudden changes, and learn how to live with these aliens. Will the team find them?
