A Kurosaki's hair is a shield and must only be let down in the company of close family and those they trust the most. A Kurosaki's hair showcases the pride and noble standing of the Kurosaki Clan. That night changed the course of Ichigo's life and all those that will come into it. One universe, Masaki never spoke of her Quincy heritage or her clan. In this one, Ichigo learns the true nature and ancient culture behind his name. - Or, I read a HP fic that was big on hair weaving being a huge tradition and now I'm hooked on worldbuilding cultures and traditions of Bleach.
