"It's time to belly up to the salad bar of truth."
Madeline Lakin is in for the summer of her life. Her younger brother is missing a leg, she's missing five thousand dollars to cover the insurance difference for a prosthetic, and her father is just plain missing. Then comes Madeline's decision to get a job at Blake's, a bistro and buffet that's about as famous in her small town as the high school's soccer captain coming out using the phrase "Dicks before chicks." Throw in a salad bar boy with a thing for plaid, a knack for being a waitress, and a fear of ultimate failure and somewhere along the lines Madeline will realize that life is like a buffet: half the time a complete mess, always surprising, and better than what anyone ever expected.
“When did you even get a job here Pipsqueak?” He called as she walked away.
“Yesterday asshole, I thought we could use some bonding."
