The narrator is driven mad by a crow's relentless cawing outside her home. Despite warnings from a college caretaker, who claims the crow is a harbinger of darkness, the narrator decides to kill the bird. She enlists the help of the chowkidar, who agrees to kill the crow in exchange for 1,000 rupees. But as the narrator waits for the deed to be done, she begins to sense that something sinister is at play.
The story is a slow-burning build-up of tension and suspense, hinting at supernatural horrors to come.
