"Why do you keep running?" The voice was deep and short of breath. He must have been running to chase me. "Why do you keep coming after me?" I asked. I was lying on the ground on my side, staring at the man before me. He lay the same way I did, looking at me with a look I havn't seen before. Suspicion trickled through his eyes. I wasn't in control of my body and still I spoke and moved. It was dark and the grass I lay on was cold and warm at the same time. It tickled my back and felt like it was nearly frozen, but the grass between us was warm and I could feel the heat pulling me forward. ------- Raven is only 17, but she's carried a curse all her life. I woke in a room that I didn't recognise. The walls were a bright blue, the floor made of a dark hardwood. I lay in a twin sized bed with blue blankets and sheets. When I sat up I noticed the full length mirror on the back of the door. An unfamiliar face stared back at me, a stranger followed my movements as I climbed out of the bed and walked towards the door. Bright red hair corkscrewed out of my scalp and created a curly mane that fell to my shoulders. Green eyes above dark circles stared as if haunted into the mirror back at me, scrutinising my outfit. A short skirted, sleeveless dress in black followed the curves, or angles, of my body and stopped inches above my knees. I had just enough time to raise an eyebrow at the outfit before the knob on the door turned. They told me my name was Melinda, Melinda Van Dyke. They told me I was 23. I was told that I had a brain like no other, that I was a gift to society, that others saw me as a monster and had tried to kill me.
